Apocalypse Now

A story for remembrance....

Once there was a farmer. He used to work very hard everyday. He got the fruit of his hard-work in the form of good yield every year...
But good times are not prominent. One year the yield didn't turn out to be good. The farmer grew angry on GOD and told GOD that he GOD was not doing his duties properly. The GOD asked him why he thought that GOD was not fulfilling his duties properly? The farmer in reply said that it was because of the mismanagement of rain by GOD that his yield was spoiled...
Now GOD asked the farmer if he wanted to manage the rain and sunlight of his farm himself. The farmer agreed and said that he would be able to manage the farm better then the GOD...
The farmer gave enough sunlight and water and nutrients and everything that was required by the seed to grow into a plant. Finally as the farmer planned the crops were floating in the air. The yield seemed to be good..
The farmer called the GOD and showed him the crop. The GOD asked the farmer to open the first seed to know how well the crop had grown. To the farmer's surprise there was no seed in the crop. GOD explained the farmer that : A crop needs to work hard to get out of the seed. You gave everything to the crop that it needed, and because of it, it never worked hard. That's the reason why the crop doesn't have seed...
The farmer got the answer to all his questions. And he realised that GOD was a far more better manager then him. Because he didn't just manage the crop in his field but also managed the crops grown by him (Humans) on the earth...

Operating System Lecture (From Tanenbaum)

Operating System Lecture (From Tanenbaum)

Now from GREEN to turn SOLAR

After earning the title of "Green City", the capital of Gujarat, Gandhinagar is going to get an another title of "Solar City" after the government launching its Solar City Project next month...

Conceived by Chief Minister Narendra Modi about three years ago, the ‘solar city’ project will be implemented in a phased-manner by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), the governing body promoting the production and use of renewable energy in the state.

The bids GEDA had recently invited from private parties to purchase photovoltaic (PV) panels, water heaters and other solar energy devices will be opened and finalised on Monday, according to a senior GEDA official, adding that work on the project will begin by July end.

Gujarat Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Patel told The Indian Express on Saturday: “My department is in the process of evolving a new state solar policy and I am happy that the solar city project, as part of this policy, is finally taking off. Besides its energy conservation aspect, the project also aims at popularising an extensive use of solar energy among the residents of Gandhinagar.”

The government had earlier engaged the Tata Engineering Research Institute (TERI), a private consultancy firm, to prepare a detailed report on the “solar city” project. TERI recently submitted its report to GEDA after conducting a comprehensive survey of residential as well as non-residential premises in Gandhinagar.

In the first phase of the project involving a Rs 30 crore component of solar PV power generation, GEDA will introduce solar-powered street lights on the main thoroughfares of the city. Solar lamp posts will be installed in the public parks and gardens and solar PV panels in the premises of the government-owned multi-storeyed buildings, including the New Sachivalaya complex. In the later stage, a solar-powered air conditioning plant will be set up in the Sachivalaya building. Once this system is in place, it will help the government save on whopping electricity bills, an official said.

“We are also planning to set up an Urja (solar) Park in Gandhinagar under the project, where the various solar and other non-conventional energy models/devices like solar cookers and water heating systems will be exhibited to sensitise local residents on the use of solar energy,” said GEDA director Vagmin Buch.

He said this Urja Park will be created either in the Punit Van or Indroda Park. GEDA has already written to the Forest Department to allot the space in either of these two locations for the proposed Urja Park, he said. Under the solar city project, GEDA will launch a community awareness campaign in the capital city, and involve local NGOs and women organisations to encourage individual users as well as institutional bodies to opt for solar-powered cookers, water heaters, home lights and other applications.

Through this campaign, the local citizens will be educated on the finer aspects of eco-friendly solar technology and the returns on investment on solar appliances.

The government has made a budgetary provision of Rs 5 crore for the implementation of the solar city project. GEDA has also written to the Union Ministry for Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy and urged it to extend financial support to the project under its scheme to promote the tapping of non-conventional energy resources in the country.

At A Glance: ASP.net vs. PHP

In the world of web development, the choice of which development language to use commonly comes down to two popular choices. Web applications, specifically those relying on back end databases, are typically being created using either Microsoft's ASP.Net language, or the Open Source alternative language of PHP. Reasons why one might choose one over the other can include: The cost of development tools, or availability of such tools, or even ones comfort level with the Open Source initiative. The goal of this article is to provide some perspective on reasons why one might choose one over the other.

Active Server Pages or ASP has long been an option for creating dynamic web content. Active Server Pages facilitates the ability to use databases such as Access or SQL just to name a few, to create dynamic, feature rich websites. The work going on behind the scenes in serving up the dynamic content is being done at the server level by the Active Server Pages source code. Microsoft has spent a great deal of time and resources promoting their .Net family of programming languages of which ASP.Net is a member. In order to develop with ASP.Net one must obtain the extremely expensive Microsoft Visual Studio Programming Suite. While expensive, Visual Studio is an asset to any programmer due to its vast amount of features. As with all of Microsoft's products, support and updates are constantly made available for ASP.Net. The shear amount of features that Microsoft packs into Visual Studio, coupled with Microsoft's extensive support make certainly make ASP.Net an attractive solution for any corporation's web development needs, but the cost can be prohibitive, if not impossible to afford for the individual web developer.

PHP which is in its 5th revision now, is an Open Source web development language that also facilitates the creation of feature rich, dynamic websites that can use databases. Being Open Source means simply that PHP isn't owned by anyone. Just as with Active Server Pages, the work going on behind the scenes of serving up the dynamic web content is being done by PHP at the server level. As with most Open Source products, the resources available to a PHP developer are free of charge. This makes PHP extremely attractive to the independent web developer. There are some commercial quality development suites available from companies like Zend, but there is also wealth of free resources just a Google Search away. Because there is really no corporate entity behind PHP, support and development on PHP is done by the community of its users and developers themselves. Surprisingly this does not seem to adversely affect the ability to find support for PHP.

All in all, ASP.Net and PHP are both excellent options, offering basically the same functionality. Whether the decision comes down to the cost of initial investment, or the comfort level one has regarding Open Source, or something else entirely, the end result depends upon the mastery of whichever language is chosen.

The Rebirth Of An Old Email Threat On You Life

Once again, people are being emailed or spammed if you want to call it by someone or persons unknown. The computer has allowed people the ability to swindle money from people, scared them into giving money and just spammed from every part of the world. The latest email threat comes after laying dormant for a year or so and has now resurfaced. The email explains that your life is in danger of ending if you do not pay the person sending the email a huge sum of money. It goes on to explain that someone you know has hired this person to end your life.

This email was a hot computer topic about a year ago, has now resurfaced, and is scaring unknowing computer users to death. They fear for their lives and some have paid the money just to stay alive. The computer is a great communication system for families to stay in touch as well as for business needs. The problem that people like this can spam your email box and get away with it is causes alarm. Even with a spam blocker turned on, these people can fool the spam blockers into accepting the emails as good emails.

Good spam blockers are not able to block the emails and unsuspecting people are falling for frauds such as this particular one. Many people express concern for more effective spam blockers to reduce the number of fraudulent emails. Gmail seems to have a hold on spam as they only allow registered users to invite a guest or you have to have a cell phone to receive an invite from the server. To date, this email account seems to hold out spam emails better than others do such as yahoo and hotmail. Hotmail seems to be the runner up with yahoo coming in third.

Computer hoaxes and fraudulent emails will never stop, people come up with new ways daily if not hourly to hack into email servers and find ways to break the spam blocker code in order to spam your email box. Although government securities try to find the culprits, they cannot keep up with growing alarm of the computing world about such actions. If a hacker or spammer can break through email security, then they can probably break through other security systems that are in place to protect your communication systems. Therefore, one conclusion is formed, security systems and spam blockers need to be revisited daily to protect the public.

If there were a way to track spammers and spam emails, we would then have a safe and secure way to conduct personal and business communications. Most spam emails come through IP addresses that are routed off other servers and cannot be tracked. Many people without technical backgrounds can and do change there IP addresses to make more posts on classified sites and this is another way to spam your email box without being caught. Until someone figures out a way to halt these practices, anyone, anywhere can email you without you knowing where it is coming from.

The important measures that need to be taken against spammers is not as easy to do as most people think it is because of the ability to change or reroute the IP address. One way to protect yourself and your computer from spam emails is to be very careful about who you give your email address to and do not open emails from someone you do not know. Emails that contain viruses can either infect your computer or scan your address book for all your contact information and spam your friends and associates. If you follow these two important steps, you can help protect yourself and associates from receiving threatening emails such as the one that seems to be plaguing everyone around the world. Another thing to keep in mind is that it is a fraud and not a real email.

Recycling Old Computers To Save The Environment

Many cities, towns and townships are now thinking about computer recycling as well as TV recycling methods to protect the environment and avoid possible soil contamination. Because computers contain many parts that could release toxins into the soil, city governments are seeking alternative ways to dispose of your old computers as well as all your old electronic equipment. This eventually will become a normal practice as more city governments become aware of the potential danger of dumping computers and all electronic products into a landfill. Many groups are also spreading the word about computer recycling and want to find better ways to dispose of the equipment.

In many cities, there are local electronic stores or recycling centers that will take your old computers and other electronics, dismantle them, and place the right parts in the right containers for disposal. This method of disposal will soon become a necessity because of the computer industries continued upgrading and making more computers that are newer more affordable for the average person to buy. If the computers make it into landfills as they have in the past, it could eventually cause environmental issues that would then need to be addressed by the federal government.

The issue of recycling computers and other electronics has become a hot computer topic and will continue to be addressed by conservatives and government officials in order to protect the land. Because the monitors as well as televisions have gases and other toxins that if placed in landfill sites could sooner or later release these gases into the atmosphere as well. This is a concern for all who have the ozone and air quality in mind. The gases inside a monitor need to be released safely as you do with a refrigerator or air-conditioner. Without proper release, the air can become filled with these toxic gases.

When recycling computers, monitors and any printers, people need to take the equipment to a place that is accredited for safely disposing of the equipment in a safe and proper way rather than dumping the equipment in a pile somewhere and hope for the best. It is vital that everyone disposes of their computer equipment properly and take it to a participating recycler in the area. You may have to pay a small fee to drop off your old electronic equipment, but you will also be spending the money wisely to protect the environment.

One of the issues surrounding computer disposal is the already thousands if not millions of computers, printers and monitors as well as other electronics that are already in landfills all over the world. Many people express concern about ways to clean up landfill sites that already have the electronics dumped there, but the cost would be in the millions to do such a huge project of this sort. Besides the fact that electronics that have been in landfills for some time now have probably already done what harm they could do already.

Printers just need the ink cartridges and toner cartridges removed before dismantling them. Many stores such as Office Max and other retail electronic stores have barrels for disposing of your old cartridges. Many ink and toner manufactures that sell to stores, supply pre-paid envelopes for sending the old cartridges back for recycling. These practices have been around for quite a while now. This has cut down on ink cartridges and toner cartridges from being pull in landfills. If everyone would learn to recycle computer and electronic equipment, then it will save millions of dollars for future clean up of these landfill sites.

Recycling old computers to save the environment is necessary and everyone has a responsibility to abide by this practice to protect and preserve land and air quality. With the newer computer systems becoming available for an affordable price and the way technology changes daily, people are going to need new computers and other electronic equipment to keep up with the changing world. Recycling is needed to accommodate all the old equipment that will double if not triple over the next few years.

7 Surprisingly Quick And Easy Ways To Feel Happier

All of us have days when we're out of sorts. You just wish you were in a better mood.  You've had days like that, haven't you? Perhaps you tried to get yourself into a better state of mind but struggled to achieve it.

Sometimes we get stuck in our own emotional dumps and forget how easy it is to feel happier, so here are seven simple ways to lift your mood. Many people have found them useful. Some of them may surprise you!

1. Go for a walk.

Most people know that going for a short daily walk is one of the best forms of exercise. When you are feeling down it is even more beneficial. If you can, go into a natural environment with plants and birds. Can you think of such a setting not? What do you notice first? The different shades of greenery, the fresh  smell of country air, the sounds of birds, or the sunlight shining through the trees? Make it real by taking a short stroll.

2. Listen to quality music.

Music can shift a listener's state within moments. It's effect can be nearly magical. Dig out that CD you haven't listened to in ages or tune in your radio to something you've never listened to before.

3. Open yourself to discovering something new.

Read something (printed, not on line) different than what you would normally watch. There are a ton of different types of magazines can you get these days. Visit your local library or browse through a magazine rack.  Pick up or buy a magazine you wouldn't normally buy. You may discover something wonderful.

4. Find something to laugh at.

Laughter is one of the best ways to lift your spirits. Find a humorous book, or watch a comedy. Even better, try to learn a few new jokes and tell them to others.

5. Simple breathing meditation.

Breathing meditation is a great exercise that you can do anywhere.  Simply allow yourself to sit comfortably with your back straight. Now close your eyes and become aware of the flow of air into and out of your nostrils. That's all there is to it. Do this for 10-15 minutes. Notice how pleasantly surprised you can be at how you feel afterward.

6. Doodling for the fun of it.

Most people can remember when they were young and used to doodle for hours. Kids love drawing silly little pictures. Drawing is not just for kids or artists.  Whoever you are get some pens, pencils, crayons or whatever you have and just draw for the fun of it. Notice how your state of mind shifts.

7. Think of others less fortunate.

The fact that you are reading this article suggests that you are probably much better off than most people on this planet. At times this may be hard to believe, but if you can read and have access to the internet, just those two things alone means you are better off than most people in the world.  There are many human beings that barely have access to the basics of survival. There are people in lots of pain. Allow your compassion for them to grow.

These are all pretty simple. There's nothing profound or life changing, but when all you need is a quick pick me up these may be just the thing you need. Putting simple ideas, methods, tools and techniques into action will help you achieve change more quick and easily--surprisingly so at time-- than you imagine.
